Mother on oxygen pump, dies after power cut.

A New Zealand mother died after Mercury Energy, the local power company, cut power to her house. Mercury Energy says that a $122 unpaid bill forced the disconnection service and that “more than one” disconnection notice had been sent to the house in the previous 2 months. It is also unclear as to whether Mercury Energy actually tried to assist her in keeping the power on. However, a manager at Mercury says the company was “devastated”.

What a tragedy. You would think that there was a way a CSR could of flagged the account as medical or just have assisted in some way. Just horrible.

  1. Something is just out of wack with this story, 1st off I know for a fact that oxygen tanks have an emergency battery operated backup system in there for power failure and what did her family do for this 2 hours, seems like they just watched her die, why didn’t they call for help ?

  2. Actually after further review of the story it appears she struggled to breathe, paramedics assisted but were unable to help and she died shortly later. :(
