I was just over at Thoof which, after I investigated it, a site that is much more than just another Digg clone. The really intriguing part about Thoof is it’s name. You wouldn’t think that anybody in their right mind would name their site something as strange and bizzare as Thoof. However, the folks over there did. Here is the story about how it happened(well…maybe.
).
It all started back in the golden year of web 2.0. Which of course was 2006! Angry members of the team from Digg left due to a fall out over whether Kevin Rose would give them more freedom to do their jobs. They went to a magical place where they could dig into all the crunchy coding goodn
ess. They also were free from the sexual harassment Kevin gave them, daily.
They then met up with Michael Michael Arrington who said “You really should start up a rival company to them and get some good revenge”. They then sat in their ergonomic chairs and thought long and hard. They then got a brilliant idea, someone spoke up and said “We want everyone else to act like something happened, a big The POOF, so they dropped a few letters in traditional l33t speak and it became Thoof.
Now you ask why they did make it that complex to come up with such a name…well you’d have to be able to decrypt French and if you are that talented: “Un jour ils ont par la suite obtenu les entrailles pour parler vers le haut, qui est une chose vraiment dure pour n’importe qui qui travaille dans un démarrage de technologie pour faire, obtiennent maintenant de nouveau à votre smartie dans la réalité.”
Au Revoir and if you want to read some really great personalized news Thoof is my new place for sure. In fact, I will be getting a Thoof rank badge for this post and every other post I choose to submit to Thoof. Hey, I love helping out the blogosphere and why don’t you!
get now the new and smart in the reality?
I really need to sharpen up on my french reading skills!
But yeah, thoof is really cool.
or you could use a translator. Yeah, Thoof is really cool.
I find Thoof totally confusing, I did an article which took me forever to get it submitted and never did find out where the Rank Badge is even located at and now I can’t even find my story …lol
Thoof is very simple. Just is a high learning curve that is all.
I did not think we were supposed to submit the article we did for the creative post to Thoof. But, then I forgot the sponsor bar, so who knows? This was hard!
It was confusing. So confusing PPP closed it and retooled the opp. Serious!
told ya it was confusing…lol
Glad I am not the only one who had a hard time wrapping my brain around that opp.
You shall deal with it.
I passed on that one because I could not get their badge to work on my blog ..
All you had to do was add it. Actually, Joe told me that PayPerPost removed the Thoof badge requirement. They closed the opp and retooled it. You should try taking it now.
